Post subject:  London guitar show, This weekend.

I was just wondering if any of the uk,ers i going to the london guitar show this weekend.
it might be a chance to meet up.

I will be there on thursday(trade day) and sat.

it will also be a chance to pick up some nice wood as madinter will be there and they allways bring a load of mad rose , zirocte, indian rosewood and euro sycamore for you spend your hard erned cash on.

also its a good way to see what some of the big uk makers are doing.
eggle will be there as will dave king and lots of high end electric makers.

i am looking at sharing a stand with a maker next year so this is a good option to see if will be worthwhile.
should be fun.

Joel.

Well back from the first day of the show.

what a load of runny stuff pfft ,

It was really quite bad.
the show had banned selling guitars idunno so many people that i went specificaly to see just were not there.

no lowden (sorry hesh) no micheal baily (he usualy makes a guitar at the show during the three days of the show and raffles it off),no nathan shepard, no black machine, no madinter, bare knuckle pickups nothing.

it was a real wash out.

dave king was there as was eggle (with some very finley made specimins) i especialy liked atkin guitars and alistair is is a lovely chap.

if you wanted bling though the taylor stand realy stood out.
as allways they had some stunning koa guitars by r,taylor and a wonderfull solid (yes solid) wallnut burl taylor solidbody (interesting).
you have to give it to them they produce produce probably the finest production guitars you can get.

I also made many contacts but not as many as i would have liked.

It was very empty every where but it was trade day so i suppose it was for the best.

they would not let me take pics but i will try get some sneaky ones on sat.

Joel.

i dont know why they put a ban on guitar sales something to do with security.

they also put up the price of a small stand to over £1000 which put many vendors off.

I must say i am disapointed.
i will still go on sat but i am looking forward to it now.

oh well roll on cheltenham acoustic show.
thats sort of a better show for me any way.

I will see you there sam,

Joel.

WELL! That makes me feel a LOT better about not getting there!

Thanks, Waddy, for the bon voyage. It is shaping up to be quite the trip. Its kind of a last hurrah as a family trip before my almost 18 year old son embarks upon university and a more adult life. Starting in London, and ending in Rome.

"a small stand to over £1000"! Well no wonder that all the interesting builders aren't there! That's a significant amount of coin for anyone except the big names. I have come to be more and more jaded about the whole structure of these kinds of shows. Admittedly, yes, it is some form of advertising, but the show promoters are not really putting on the show for the vendors, they are show promoters and that is their product and their way to earn an income.

Its really not any different from a music concert or festival. I'll be interested in participating again when musicians are charged to play at a festival they same way that craftspeople are charged at a trade show. Yes, I know that there is a cost to being a musician, but at most trade shows, the craftspeople there are just entertainment to the show patrons.

Dave that Narra/Euro looks a treat, whoever wins that (the fix is on right?) will be a lucky so-and-so.

Shame (though not too much of a shame from the sounds of things) im not going gaah and shame no lowdens :(

i recently went to a shop just to play about a dozen lowdens (they also had a couple of nice old gibsons and fydle's) bliss it amazed me at how light they are and how easy they are to play, are all hand made guitars like that? Even better, when the guy found out i was interested in luthiery, he told me that there is a possibility the Mr Lowden himself might be going to the shop to possibly give a talk about how he makes guitars around the end of the year! bliss

i might have to persuade my dad to take me to Cheltenham, it sounds like fun.

Well i was considering getting a stand for tonewood supplies there next year but there is no way i will do it now.
i think cheltenham would be more suitable anyway.

as for that narra defaoite guitar looks wonderfull i want it (all though my feeble playling would do it no justice).
I love the way he uses much more modern teqniques in his guitars.

It something we dont see as much in the uk makers as we tend to be a traditional.

As for lowden he is quite a sociable guy and is often plowing through stacks of wood at local tonewood stores.
he has a real passion for good quality wood and still loves his trade.

also his guitars are truly wonderfull creations.

It looks like there will be a few of us at cheltenham we should met up,

Joel.

P.s. hesh i am going back tomorrow to meeet some people so i will try to get some sneaky pics while no one is looking ;) .

I'd love to go to Cheltenham, and I could, because we'll be in England, but I promised my wife we'd go to Bromyard Festival (it's the same weekend) and we've bought the tickets. I shall probably be thinking about Cheltenham all weekend at Bromyard, as it's just up the road! :(

Woe is me, Bromyard is just DOWN the road from where I live!!

I'll be thinking about Bromyard ALL weekend, as some of my favourite artists are playing there. I've been meaning to go the last few years, but young kids and a recalcitrant husband (love him really!! [:Y:] ) make everything 100 times harder to organise!!

Actually, recalcitrance is good. If I didn't have that anchor, I'd be everywhere at once..
