Post subject:  OM Case

Hi all.

I'm having a hard time finding affordable cases for OM guitars. The only one I found is a Martin case that I can get for about 350$! wow7-eyes

I (and my customers) really like the Gator cases, but they don't make any for OMs.

So I was wondering if one of you guys knew of a case brand that would cost anywhere between 60$ to 100$.

Thanks!

I have noticed that Musicians Friend has a pretty good selection of cases. Also, Elderly Instruments.

TKL - great cases and inexpensive too.

Coach Tony Karol may weigh in here with a good source in Canada, Anthony has one too.

If you want an US distributor try finecases.com. Priced from about $130 with a high end model about $190.

Thanks guys!

After lurking at finecases.com, I noticed 'Canadian Case' make OOO/OM models. My local music store carries Canadian Cases, so I should be able to get them from him. Although he abviously doesn't know he can sell them, since I asked him what he could get me for an OM and all he could come up with was the 350$ Martin case!

Guess I might have to shop around for a new music strore...

Thanks again!

I'm using a Gator GC Classic Deluxe ABS case for my OM. I got mine from Musician's Friend
Current cost is $84.00. I paid about $10 less last year.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gator-Deluxe-Classical-Guitar-Case?sku=544764

My guitar measures:
Lower Bout- 15"
Waist- 9"
Upper Bout- 11 3/8"
Body length- 19 3/8"
Overall length- 39 3/4"
Upper depth- 3 1/4"
Lower depth- 4 3/16"

The waist doesn't fit tight, and the body cavity is a little long, but the case catchs the lower
bout and the "shoulders" of the upper bout, and the thickness is right, so the guitar is a good
snug fit overall. I thought it was a good buy for that price. If I was trying to give a customer
a case for an expensive custom guitar, it probably wouldn't be what I'd want, but all my guitars
so far are for me or family, so it's fine...

Elderly has at least 4 cases for an OM at below $200 price range. The Canadian is $75.00 from them. HERE They even have the Martin Vintage OM Case for $185. HERE

Thanks for your suggestions guys.

gozierd:
I have a gator lightweight for classical that won't fit my OMs. So I'm worried to order the ABS one. But thanks for the info!

Waddy:
My local music store sells the Canadian Dreadought or classical for 59$ CAN. So I'll see what he can do for the OM case. That'll spare me the transport fees. Otherwise it might be Elderly!

You have to remember that most OEM or stock OM cases are built to fit a Martin OM and or OOO body. If you cut your own bending and assembly mold or bought them from some luthier supply house (Blues Creek not included in this statement) the the exact shape and loccation of bouts and waist may or may not match perfectly with a stock OM case designed to the Martin shape. You can have the same LB dimension, UB dimension, waist demension, length dimension and depth dimensions but the shape and or location of the body features be slightly different than Martin's. This can cause a tad or more miss fit. Yes a custom case like an Ameritage or Cedar Creek is expensive. but to get the perfect fit you speak of Providing a template to a custom builder is the the only sure way to garantee that fit. Many if not most commission builder do just that to insure that the client get the best protection for their instrument possible.

Alain, TKL has many of their cases made for them in a factory in Montreal. You should be able to source one locally. I get the top of the line TKL cases here in Toronto from George Heinl & Co for CDN$95 plus applicable taxes. They will ship as well. It's the best deal on a very good case that I have come across thus far.
