Here is my 1st attempt at a rear veneer on a headstock. [:Y:] This is a standard Martin style cnc neck. I sanded about +/- 1mm off the back of the headstack on my stationary belt sander. I needed to anyway because of some damage on the top edge. Then I thicknessed a piece of lacewood to about +/- 1mm and glued it on with LMI white.

In hand-sanding the edges smooth it looks like I removed enough of the mohagany such that the sanded area is lighter in color than the rest of the neck. I have done some sanding on the rest of the neck but the overall color is not as light. I don't want to sand off too much... Also, notice the there is a darker area near the edge of the lacewood that doesn't seem to want to lighten up... any thoughts, comments, or suggestions?

I think if you sand the rest of the area into the lighter area WITH the grain it will blend in just fine.....try it then wipe it down with something and I bet it will look great.

Steve;
the darkness in the neck is probably from the glue getting into the wood.
You can sand this out without removing to much wood-
or it's just aged(oxidized)wood that sanding will take care of also!
I'm talking .005 " of wood-not to worry about that!!

The 2 gaps you see can be filled with glue & dust -or carefully removed by sanding also!
[:Y:]
lacewood -neat combo of woodtones there(color)
Go for it! [:Y:]
