On a martin scale , how long should the truss rod be ? and on an inside the box , adjustable rod , where should it end down the neck , near the nut ? I am thinking at the first fret, but it now seems too long . thanks Jody

Great question Jody,
I'd guess each brand of truss rod is a different length, but I also would like input on how far out of the neck block the rod should end. I've seen some guitars where the rod comes through the hole in the UTB.
I know that doesn't answer your question. I'm just trying to bump this to the top.

What style of truss rod are you using?

Right - but where did you get it - is it an Allied (new style or old style), LMI, Martin, etc? The length would be helpful to know too.

i have a few, not sure where they originated, they all have the actualy adjusting rod inside a square aluminum "tube", two slightly different ones , about 15" not counting the adjusting nut ....they both fit nicely into a martin neck slot.... one has a thin brown film on the top of it ( taped to it now )... the other , the adjusting pin is slightly off center ... jody

They sounds like Martin rods - good description Jody [:Y:]

I think that John Hall (Blues Creek) uses these and might be a good one to PM.
