After a busy few months here on the farm I just finished this. Its a honduran mahogany/carpathian spruce dread. To date this one and the last seem to stand out from the others. Both just happened to have Carp tops 8-) Appointments are Brazilian rw binding, bridge and peghead overlay with Bois de Rose fingerboard and 30's style Waverly's.

Thanks to everyone for all the great ideas and help this forum gives. Long live the OLF!!!!!!! bliss

I like it, Steve. Are you using a full glued-in through saddle or a faux drop-in version? What are you finishing with these days? For some reason I was thinking you used a varnish finish?

That neck just looks like it would feel good.

Thanks guys. I normally do use varnish but this is going to be a fulltime "gigging" endorsement guitar (I hope) so I went with nitro and a tung oil finish on the back of the neck. It plays like "butta" with action at 7 64ths big E and 5.5 64ths little E. Thats about as low as I will go with this one for the guy who wants it.

The tone is amazing. It is extremely punchy in the mids with lots of volume to spare and good defined bass which can be lacking in mahogany dreads especially new ones. I'm convinced by the carpathian spruce. I believe it could be a huge thing if the supply of the good stuff can keep up with demand. It makes a really, really, really good bluegrass guitar. To me its the best one I've ever built tonally.

As for the saddle it isn't glued in yet but after it settles in a week or two I'll give it a smidge on the back side but not so much it can't be coaxed out if needed.

I love a great looking dread....and that's a Great Looking Dread.
Very nice work. You can't beat the visual combo of mahogany and brazilian appointments IMHO. If you don't believe me, just ask Colin.
