Just finished with 1500 grit. Worked O.K.
Thanks for the advice guys.

Two Amazonian clown frogs hanging out on a pick guard. Still engraving some details on this one, but basically this is it.

Thanks for looking as always!
Next up a "knock off" and a very special piece for me. You'll see why later.

Rats....I can never view your images at work. Something in our firewall and security stuff blocks the site where you post them for some reason. I'm sure they're fantastic inlays though!

Beautiful inlay work as always Craig! [:Y:] [clap] [:Y:] [clap] [:Y:]

Just curious what material did you use for the large green leaf and stem?

Cheers,
Dave F.

Post subject:  Thanks guys

The materials are:
Leaves- green abalone
frog bodies- brown lip abalone
gold spots-gold pearl
black Tahitian pearl here and there, and green corian for the stem and leaf.

Stunning work as usual Craig!

Some of these rainforest amphibians can be 'trance-inducing' when licked. What happens when your client rips into a blazing lick on this strat? wow7-eyes

I was right! They're fantastic! Of course, it wasn't a stretch to figure they were....

Green corian eh? Can you say where you buy corian from Craig?

I have to find a source....maybe there's a local installer that has offcuts? I thought I had heard somewhere (sawmillcreek.org?) that you have to be "licensed" to use the stuff and that installers offcuts have to be recycled back to the factory - anyone know if this is true?

Thanks,
Dave F.

That's completely untrue. You can get it lots of places. I have a great source for art quantity and thickness, but I need to look it up. I need more green anyway. I'll post the link when I can.
Thanks for all the support as usual guys.

Post subject:  Thanks again Guys.

Thanks to everyone.
Your comments are inspiring and appreciated.
It's pretty busy down here so expect to see hopefully interesting and cool stuff soon. I have been talking with the masters recently and changing up some techniques, adding and deleting previous methods, etc.. working on refining the basic as well as trying to remember the obvious that slips away, then you go- "why did I ever stop doing that?"

We have all been there before.

Change is a good thing.

Craig,

Great work my friend! The colors and placement are so cool.

Be sure to let us have a look at the knock off you mentioned. Who is the original by?

nice nice nice nice! Whatta talent! Man, I'll have to say that I loved your redtail hawk too! A week before you posted that I was wondering how a red tail would look on a guitar. You answered that question.....If Craig does it, NICE!!! I love the way you inlay a partial scene and the imagination fills in the rest. dang.

Post subject:  Thanks Guys!

I just heard from the new owner of the hawk actually, and he never saw it before opening the box.
He really likes the way all the shell pieces were set up to flash opposite of each other. Every other piece is either "on" or "off" but in a photo you can't tell.

Kevin I should have said "mimic" instead of Knock -off. An art collector is having me do a special piece reminiscent of the oil painter Michael Godard - he does the olives and drinking and gambling stuff that is really big right now as fine and modern art. It's all over the cruise ship scene and the guy is getting really huge in his field.

I'll post it with a detailed description when it's done. It's definitely VERY VERY different from anything else out there as far as inlay goes....

More soon.
