I just got a set of Ancient Kauri and one of the sides has an area in the middle that measures out to .073 thick.

I'm worried that since it still needs a lot of sanding, if this is something that I should request a replacement be sent.

Or is it nothing to worry about?

I would send it back. In fact I'd send both back so you wind up with a good matching set.

Blaine,

I'd be asking for a new set. That doesn't leave much material for finishing. The other option is to laminate the sides, I guess, but that is something that I've never attempted yet.

Yep the guys are correct IMHO - finish sanding will take off another .003 or more leaving you with some ancient toilet paper...... :D

Thanks guys.

I've contacted the seller and am going to have the set replaced. And to think that the other side was so thick that it could have almost been resawed to produce yet another side. :?

Man, and I even tried to lay my profile template up to it to see if that spot could be avoided but it covered about a 2.0"+ x 2.0" area that some of it could not be avoided.
