Hey guys. I am working on my first guitar, a L-0. I chose to make my top competely flat with no radius. Those of you who make your guitars Flat, what are the pros & cons. Those of you who use a radius what are the rpos and cons. I am interested in your experience what the tonal differences are between the two schools of thought.

thank you guys for all of the sharing

Jason my friend we have had some good discussions regarding this topic lately and through the years. If you search the archives under "flat top" or "radiused top" you will find lots of info.

Here is a link to a thread that I found that may be helpful to you: http://luthiersforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10102&t=15066&p=214821&hilit=+flat+top+#p214821

Please do we have to go through this again? I hope not. :)

Jason, discussions about flat vs. arched ( how should I put this nicely) are VERY VERY HEATED and PAINFUL!! :)

I know because I asked.

Sincerely,
Mike

Here's another decent discussion from the past, and here is a good example of how these discussions can evolve. beehive

The short answer, radiused tops are superior. Anyone who says otherwise is in disagreement with me, and thereby inarguably wrong.

Okay, that's it. Lance you can close the discussion now. This is pushing the limits of the "no religion discussions" clause (people seem to use names of various deities with fervor in these debates anyway).
