Hi Laurent,
Home depot only carries Norton. I'll see if they have the Norton 3x open coat you suggested.
Thank you

Ron M.

Ya got to get away from buying at BIG BOX BOZO'S It is far cheaper to by on line with much better quality and availability.

They do normally carry 3x but only in 80, 150, 220 in ROS pads and 80, 120, 220, and 320 sheets. Lately I have not seen any 220 on ROS pads. That is the ting about Bozos. You can never depend that they are in stock.

If you find Norton Champagne (a/k/a Champagne Magnum) at the Depot, please let me know immediately. I don't think you will. It's about the best sandpaper I've ever used. The coat is more open than 3M gold.

Lowes used to carry the 3X ROS discs, but stopped and replaced that rack with another one of those Gatorcrap items....worthless. Woodworker's supply carries some good stuff, too.

Howard we get it here inconsistantly in the grits I listed. I assumed this was common nation wide. They always carry the bright yellow stuff but not near as good. but better than most hardware paper

MichaelP, I don't like shopping at home depot either. Most of the time when i go there they don't have what I want. The last time I was there I recall seeing a fairly large selection of norton papers. I'm just trying to get hold of some decent sandpaper so that i can keep working over the weekend.

Howard, I also doubt that HD would have the norton 3x champagne sandpaper, but I may check.

Thanks everyone.

Ron M.

Since you quoted me before I edited out the reference to Mirka Royal: Mirka Gold is likely closer to 3M Gold than Mirka Royal. But so far I like the Royal better. It seems sharper and longer lasting. I edited this out because my experience of Mirka Gold is just with ROS discs, and with Royal just with sheets, so I'm not sure how accurate my impressions are.

The Norton Champagne sheets I've used are not labeled 3X. And they are not champagne colored--more like a mottled brick red (which is the color of the backing paper) and grey. I just checked the Depot website and some (but not all) the 3X papers do look like the Champagne. I'll have to check it out at the store.

Ron,

I found the 20 sheet packs at Woodcraft for $10. Last time I was there they had a pretty complete selection up to 400 grit.
