Post subject:  Herringbone plans
I've just received the Herringbone dread plans from LMI (same as StewMac). It was my understanding that the plan was based on a pre-war dread. Also my understanding that the pre-war guitars had "forward shifted" bracing. StewMac recently had an article in their trade secrets on forward shifting the braces in their plans.

So what do I have with these plans? Something in between?

Here is the response I got from StewMac:

I thought that the HD28 was supposed to be a modern version of the pre-war guitars, is it just the scalloped braces, but not in the original location?

right Martin stopped using the forward shifted bracing in the 1940's due to the increased warrantee issues with the popularity of heavier guage strings, in other words if you use forward bracing and heavier ( what we call medium ) guaged strings expect warrantee issues ! Jody
