I love making instruments out of bits left over from other instruments. This is a little tenor guitar that I made as an experiment based on a Martin 5-15 using khaya (four piece top and back) with EI Rosewood binding and veneer, an ebony fingerboard and bridge and sycamore neck. Scale length is 597mm (23.5” – it was using a slotted fingerboard for a guitar-bouzouki with 650mm scale and cutting off the first two frets), the top is ladder braced and there is a side soundport. The strings went on last Saturday, it went with me to guitar camp on Sunday and on Friday someone liked it so much they bought it – so no sound clips although I might get some in the near future. The sound was really loud with good string balance, great sustain and the hint of the throaty mid-range honk. It makes a great sessions instrument for both melody and chordal work and I’m definitely goint to make some more. I had this one tuned GDAD like an Irish tenor banjo and the strings were 49, 32, 22w and 15. My daughter has named this model Nøkken after a Scandanavian water spirit. Absolutely stunning, Dave. It doesn't surprise me that someone bought it. It's a real shame you didn't get a chance to record a sound clip. |

The "ladders" will take over the world, Dave! A very sweet guitar and a great gift to transform those leftover pieces of wood. Have you adjusted your top brace pattern at all? Looks like the lowest brace may be closer to the bridge than your previous efforts. |

Great little guitar again Dave, (looks suspiciously like a big Ukelele though!), heard one on the TV this morning, good sound. Might have to add that to the list of builds, should be good in an ad hoc pub group. You seem to have developed a niche in niche guitars. Colin |

Thanks all, It is just a baritone uke with steel strings The tenor is making a "transit visit" today so I might get a chance to record something. Hesh - yes it has cf flying buttress braces and floating fbe. Loren, I think I was adapting the bracing layout to the smaller body and scale length and decided to have the gap between those two ladder braces pretty much the same as the bridge width. |

Beautiful!! I saw Seth Lakeman (again) last week and it reminded me of him. I know he's not a 'great' guitarist but he sure plays his Tenor with guts and passion. Great job Mat |
