Well i have just put in an order for a nice new laguna LT18 bandsaw after along time pussyfooting around trying to decide on the right machine.

some of you may remember a post i made allmost 6 months ago when first startted deciding what new machines to get

i am getting the machine shipped streight from the factory in italy to the italian branch of my fathers company.
the machine will then come over the channel in truck that is bringing a 48 channel SSL mixing console with it to my dads london branch.
the truck will drop off my shiney new bandsaw after delivering the mixing console to funky junk london.

after looking into a number of options here in the uk i figured it was worth going to the trouble getting the laguna shipped from italy.
i also saved allmost $3,000 which is what an equivelent uk model would have cost me (i.e $6,000 total for the saw here)

$3,000 for such a good peice of kit and is well worth the effort IMHO.

Anyway i had a question about the guide system for those of you folks who have LT16's an 18's.
I understand that the ceramic guides touch the blade on either side to stop left to right movement but how do you adjust the back stop part of the guide.

i allways like the teeth of the blade a few mm in front of the guides to stop them blunting so far i cant see a way adjust the guide smaller blades can be used.
I am sure that there is way which will become clear when the machine arrives but i just wanted to make sure from some of the folks who are used to using them.
i just cant seem to picture how the back stop is adjusted in my head

I presume there is circular rod of ceramic that can be adjusted from the back but can anyone clarify this for me befor i get rid of my old machine.

i was going to keep the old machine for smaller tasks and keep the laguna for resaw but space costing money i would prefer to use the laguna for most tasks.
Is this being silly or should i keep my old machine (it a good mahine in its own right)for small work such as cutting bridge blanks making jigs and general workshop use.

the guide question is the important one but all opinions welcome,

The guides are actually two above and two below. They mount two guides to the same piece of aluminum extrusion, and you simply adjust them to the blade. You may have to tweak the aluminum blocks for square so that they are actually parallel to each other. The ceramic disk for the back edge of the blade is attached to the face of a steel dowel which moves in and out and is secured by a simple knob.

If I had room for my old 14" Rockwell saw, I would have kept it for the smaller tasks, but I didn't have the luxury of the space in my shop. Then again, I haven't really needed it either.
