I am looking for pernambuco to make purflings out of. Does anybody know of a source? Thins are ok, or even thick veneers would work ok as well.

I found a little on ebay, but it was pretty much junk for my purposes.

Hi Brock,

You might try a search for "Chakte Viga" on Ebay. It is not Pernambuco, and probably would not be at all suitable for a violin bow, but for purflings or even binding, it would give you about the same (burnt orange) look.

Gilmer wood generally carries Pernambuco.

I heard its often used for fence posts in Brazil. We do things different in these parts...

gimer have some pernumbuco sometimes,

If you cant find local i have some here.

Its really expensive becouse the violin folks pay through the nose for it allthough all the stuff i have left has been rejected by the violin bow makers.
They need a very specific type to be suitable for bows and its a vary variable wood.

I think gilmer will be your best bet,
Joel.

Eisenbrand had some also last time I checked. Gilmer has some long pieces listed in the specials pages which should be good for purfs.

Cool... thanks.

I checked my usual sources before coming to the board. Most seem out of it, or only have stock that won't work well. But these are some good suggestions.

Thanks,
