Can anyone tell me if the LMI binding/rabbeting router bit is compatible with the StewMac bearing set? I need to put in an order with LMI for some other stuff so I thought I would just get their bit. The ID of the StewMac bearings (what I have) is 1/4". How bout the LMI set?

I don't believe they are. I seem to recall that they have different bearing journal dia. and length. I can be wrong but I believe I recall someone telling me this a long time ago.

Jim buddy I have both sets and they are not compatible.

Thanks Michael, thanks Hesh, that's what I thought. Bummer. I knocked my laminate trimmer off the bench last night and chewed up the carbide cutters. I hate to pay $8.50 shipping for a single router bit.

Jim,
They are not compatible, BUT, you can get this rabbet bit and use the LMI bearings on it:
You can purchase a 1" diameter rabbet bit from Woodworkersupply.com here:
http://woodworker.com/cgi-bin/FULLPRES. ... UM=819-612

that sells for $20 and it is Catalog# 819-612. The bearings from LMI will fit this rabbet bit.

Good luck!

Thanks Tracy. Problem is I already have the StewMac bearing set. I'm about to put an order in with LMI, so I was hoping the LMI cutter would work with my bearings.
Somewhere in my shop, I have a new 1" Freud rabbeting bit. The bearing shaft OD is only 3/16" (I think) so I'd have to fabricate a spacer to make it work with the StewMac bearings. I think I'll give that a try first.

Hey, don't want to hijack, but I think this fits in here...I have the stew-mac set, and notice they now include an extender to drop the bearing a bit to ride lower on the sides of the guitar...I need to re-route a purfling ledge and don't want to pay $8 s/h for the extender that weighs less than an anorexic gnat [xx(] ...anyone out there done something clever to lower the bearing? I'm thinking a brass washer as a shim or something like that?

I picked up some small stainless steel washers at Ace to just that. Works fine.
