Joe happened upon a garage sale where a cabinet maker/ furniture maker was unloading his wood stash. We bought most of it for $1.00 per board. It consisted of Honduran Mahogany, African Mahogany, Santos Mahogany, Jatoba, Ipe Cherry and Walnut. Check out the stash below. The score represents a $45 investment in backs, sides, headplates, binding and bridges.

The seller, who was a great guy and a guitar player to boot, was grateful that the wood was going to good homes. We'll be sure to honor his generosity by using it wisely. And if I'm real lucky, Joe will continue increasing his finishing business so that he'll be forced to sell me his wood in order to make more space to hang guitars! wow7-eyes

Todd...I got 2 boards of Ipe that has some great figure that I thought might make good bindings, headstocks and butt wedges.

JJ, that Ipe should make a wonderful fretboard.
Use it on your underwater model.

Nice! That's better than my sapele haul. Our deck is ipe -- that's some seriously dense wood. Same fire rating as concrete, seriously. I've got quite a bit left over from the deck, but it didn't occur to me that it's zoot -- I just thought of it as very heavy wood. ;)

I have a piece of 4/4 ipe that I bought about a year ago that is 9" wide. I have been thinking about making a guitar out of it, but I have no clue what to resaw it with. It is like steel and I dont know of a blade that would stand up to it.

The rest of this wood looks excellent. Congrats on the good score!

Man a dollar a board is just unbelieveable!
