This ones being in progress for a lot longer than I had anticipated, but then there were a lot of parts of building this one that just take heaps of time, and there is no point in rushing through them.

The adjustable neck has turned out a treat. Heaps more adjustment than I anticipated using the T-nut. I can have the strings resting on the frets, and raise them up to being able to play slide. Much more than will ever be required. And really easy to adjust. I also put the adjusting end for the truss rod up in the headstock for the ease of adjustment factor as well. Plus it was just to much of a headache trying to get one to work out with an adjustable neck through the sound hole.

Here's the specs.

Body - East Indian Rosewood
Top - Engelman Spruce
Neck - African Mahogany / Qld. Maple and Cheesewood
Finger Board - Mineretchi
Head Plate - Burl (unkown)
Bridge - East Indian Rosewood
Rosette - Spalted Maple
Tuners - Gotoh 510's

Allen, that's gorgeous. I love that backstrip. I've never heard of cheesewood, but I've gotta say it sounds pretty gross [xx(] :D

i think this guitar is stunning!! the whole neck adjustment thing is totally fasinating to me and i'm glad that you're so happy with it after what must have been a lot of work.
more than all that, though, i love the eng and eir combination. i play it every day and think it sounds sooooo good. all the notes are so round and interesting.
of course, things like your back strip detail and laminated neck are also beautiful. good for you and nice work. you should be proud.

As I said on ANZLF, that is a killer guitar. Or maybe I didn't say that. I don't know. I really, really like it though. I'll even pay shipping! :D Then I'll learn to play it.

Looks good, Allen! I especially like the back and side purfling. Very nice.

Had you posted earlier about the design and construction of your adjustable neck joint? If so, I must have missed it. I'd be very interested to see more about that. I'm starting to do adjustable neck joints myself (just done one so far), but I haven't yet settled on a design I'm completely satisfied with.

Allen, that's stellar.
But what really sends me is that peghead overlay.
That is fabulous! It looks a bit like a lunar landscape. Or some such extraterrestrial mountain range. How much more difficult would it be to inlay a shot of the earth rising over one of those "mountains"?

Thanks everyone.

Mike, cheese wood is beautiful stuff to work with. Another native of Australia. It's very hard, and when used as bindings looks very much like ivory. The bindings on my last guitar, the Size 5 are made with it.

Todd, I don't think I've posted anything about this adjustable neck, but I may have made comment in another thread. There is a long discussion about adjustable necks on the Australian / New Zealand Luthiers Forum where many of us brain stormed and my method is borrowing from many of the terrific ideas that evolved there. Mine is still a work in progress, as I see where some refinements can be made, but as is, it's still a very functional set up.

Steve, I thought about a bit of a landscape theme with the headstock, but decided against it at the last minute. I wanted the wood to speak for itself without anything else. It was just so beautiful on it's own that I was afraid I might stuff it up.

Wow, I am in love with thak guitar!! Nice job!!!

I especially like the single bold line purfling, the end graft and back inlays, the rosette, and the geometry of the cutaway. I wish I could play it. I bet it sounds wonderful!!

Thanks for sharing with us.

I love the binding/purfling on this guitar.as well as the other appointments. One question thouth: did you make this a tad on the thin side (under 4 1/4" at the tail) or is it just the photo perspective?

My plans called for 105 mm but got taken down to 103 mm in the radius dish.

that is only 1/8 under Martin specs. It must just be the perspective of the photos. Cool box anyway [clap] [clap]

Hi Allen
I like it alot! Do you use an extension for the fret board on your adjustable neck..it is hard to tell from the photos.

Yes, there are a couple of 1/8 x 3/8 CF rods inlet into the fret board by 1/8 and the rest into the neck. They are full length from the very end of the fret board up into the head stock. I tapered them off under the fret board just for the ascetics really. No reason that they couldn't be full hight. The extension is still rock solid, but that could be do to being bound as well.
