Thought i'd start making the neck, since i'm not quite set up for bending the sides yet.
i had planned on a regular scarf joint, but made a last minute change.( [headinwall] )

Had i thought more about the location of the laminations in the neck I might not have opted for the v-joint, getting those fibers to align was a real PITA. Structurally i think i'm in the clear, but visually i know it's far from perfect. Would be a shame too if the first one turned out perfect...
All i know now is that if i'm going to make this joint again i'm going to add the following to my shopping cart: Marking knives,Sliding bevel,Razor saw.

The fiber strips are the lmii .06" fiber sheets, anyone know what they are made of? felt like some kinda plastic when chiseling, not a joy to work with...

Edit: the neck is Maple/B/W/Maple/W/B/Maple

Well i guess that my head is thinking a lot more than my hands type, the main reason for posting was to get some more info on the trussrod. i've got the gotoh double acting truss rod. do you route the channel so that the top of the rod is flush with the neck or do you use a hardwood cover on top of it? is there some more in depth reading/instructions on the trussrod in general you could point me towards.

i also noticed that in cumpianos book the nut is placed flat on the neck and in michael's plans it seems that the bottom is angled and seated on the headstock, what is the thought process behind the different methods, i guess it would matter in determining where my blank will join with the body of the guitar.

Thanks alot for putting up with us noobs [:Y:]
