Post subject:  String spacing at bridge

I have a pre-made (wimpy I know) "Martin type" bridge from LMI. The string spacing is 2 1/8" compared to my Taylor which is closer to 2 1/4" What is more common?

55mm is Taylors standard.
Martins have come with the same or wider.
Like 57mm which I prefer.

Mike
sorry for the Metric!!!
it's the best way to measure!!!!! [:Y:]

I am sure most know this but for the new builders out there it may be helpful to mention that there is a interconnected relationship between scale length, bridge string spacing, nut width, and nut string spacing that drives angle of taper of the neck and fretboard. The relationship should be laid out on paper in full scale prior to committing to a design. Too wide of a string spacing at the bridge in relationship to the spacing at the nut and the neck taper can leave too little fretboard perimeter at the higher frets on the two E strings
