We had a guy at church today who came up after services and complimented me on the tone of one of my electric guitars(which I assembled from aftermarket parts). I said "Thanks, I made it myself,", then told him I assembled it from parts. He asked a couple of questions about it, then said he had just got back from a week long(I think) mountain dulcimer build class. He had the one he built in the class, and one the luthier built. The luthier's name was Keith Young, from WV. They were great looking instruments. I know nothing about dulcimers, but the workmanship was great. I like the simplicity of design and the beauty of the woods. The student's dulcimer had walnut back/sides and WRC top, both well bookmatched. The only flaw I could find was a slight bit of glue squeeze out where the fingerboard joined the body, and you really had to look for it. The luthier- built one was walnut throughout, and absolutely perfect. Fine craftsmanship, great looking woods and just beautiful instruments!

Keith Young has been building dulcimers for many years. He has an instructional DVD that is very good if interested in learning. I built one recently and it was a world of fun - but I'll stick with guitars. His website is http://www.appalachiandulcimers.com
