I cut the first slothead with my Luthier Tools jig today (present from adoring wife). I just have to say it's an awesome tool.

I know I like to do a lot of stuff by hand including cutting the slots, but even I am converted for my powertool builds. Take three bites at it, at increasing depth with an oversize guide (I used 11mm), then run round the edges with the smaller guide (10mm) and Robert's you mother's brother!

Anyone who cuts a number of slotheads that doesn't have one of these, well they should feel very deprived.

I like the way you just cut the outside profile, put it in the jig then drill the holes and rout the slots in one go.

Here's the result.

I've been using that jig for several years now...it's the best jig I own!

One of the OLF sponsers, Luthiers Mercantile Inc. has a similar jig for cutting and drilling slotheads and although you can only cut and drill one side at a time the price is very good.
I've seen the Luthier tools jig and it looks to be very good but very pricey. The LMI jig is also very well made and works great.

It is one of the items on their opening page.

Thought I'd add this for those looking for something similar but more affordable. [:Y:]

I have the luthiertool jig and it's great, though I've only used it once so far. It was really easy to use, very well designed, and excellent quality.

Still have to square off the slots yourself, but you can't have everything...

And ramp the slots which to me is the hardest part.
