I got a flyer in the mail this week saying Grainger was having a sale on 1hp motors, so I jumped all over it and ordered one. I have been having problems with the old 1/2 hp motor I have been using overheating and kicking out on thermal overloads... the added HP should solve that issue. The reason I am writing this post is to ask about a thread I saw a couple of years ago on here where someone had mounted their buffing wheel on a board that was attached to the wall with a hinge so that it could be pulled up and stored out of the way when not in use. I was wondering how that worked out and if there were issues of the buffer wanting to climb up and over the guitar or if it was steady enough to get the job done. If this is a workable idea, then I might just give it a try and save some floor space in my shop. I have the stewmac buffer if that makes any difference. Sure would love to hear whether it worked or not. |

Dan Minard has a set up like you decribe. You might want to pm him and see if he could post a photo. It works great and hinges up nicely out of the way. I think he put a locking pin in the down position and drops down on a chain. Cheers, Danny |

Thanks Dave ! I hadnt seen the post before but that is very similar to what I have in mind. Since I already have a sanding table with good dust collection I thought I would make one on hinges that swings down from the wall over it and close enough to catch most of the dust that is created during the buffing stage. That post gives me a good idea on how to mount the motor. |
