Funniest dam thing. I get the strangest email about towels made out of bamboo fabric and all of a sudden, I am seeing bamboo everywhere. Saw bamboo cutting boards at the grocery store tonight. Of course, you know what that got me to thinking about. Then this guitar (above). How freakin interesting!

SO, any of you tried this? Any sources for raw materials? Allspruce harp guitar? Move over! AllBamboo Harp is on the way!

I played that particular model of acoustic guitar last year at a local guitar store, retailling for roughly $650.00

I must admit, it was a pretty looking instrument, and the bamboo didn't look 2-dimensional like some laminate guitars are. Yamaha's build quality is exceptional with the mid-higher range guitars. I can't recall any "ridges" or bumps that would indicate a multitude of wooden strips!

It was also very interesting playing it. There was this expectation that it would sound pretty bad, considering that there was a glue joint on the top every 2cm or so, and the whole top would probably be overbraced and encased with some sort or resin to fill in any low spots in glue joins, etc., but it really did seem very soundly built; the guitar wasn't the lightest in the world, but the tone was very pleasing.

The tone I could describe as being a lot better than all-laminate guitars; if you start thinking about the sparkly fresh tone of a Yamaha L Series guitar, you wouldn't go far wrong.

I've played a few of those in stores - they sounded absolutely terrible. Might be OK for back/sides/neck, and it looked quite funky, but spruce for the top has got to be the way to go...

Well, I would never use it for top material, just back and sides. Maybe even the neck. Sounds like a fun area to experiment with.
