It's Saturday morning. By coincidence I have both machines cutting Brazilian right now. There's quite a pile of shavings by now. I got an early start today. So I'm standing in front of this noise with Brazilian dust hanging in the air, deeply inhaling as much of the aroma as possible and thinking "man, I'm glad I quit smoking". |

Last time I was resawing (and then machining) Brazilian, I collected up all the dust in a jar in the hopes of preserving 'that smell' that nobody's going to be smelling in fifteen years. Sadly, after a couple days the smell is gone as it oxidizes away or somesuch, so I'm on the machine 'n sniff bandwagon as well |

It could be gold mine, if you got enough of it. A friend of mine in Napa Valley made serious money selling smoker chips from grapevines he got free for the hauling when old vines were replaced. He sold Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc for smoking fish, and cabernet and pinot for smoking beef. So, maybe the rosewoods could be hyped for smoking beef, and maples for fish? Pat |
