hi all, im going to attempt to put a veneer on to the face of a guitar im currently building(solid body). i ordered a nice 1 leaf kevasingo veneer.the leaf has ripples in it. My question is how to get it flat? thanks j

You can also wet the wood with just water if you don't have the veneer softener. Water will flatten mild ripples with no problems. The veneer softener is only really necessary when the ripples or wrinkles are so severe that they cannot be flattened without cracking.

hi, i woke up this morning to find the eneer flat as a pancake, cheers guys, i just used a damp cloth and sandwhich it between 2 sheets of ply clamped together...thanks for the above posts...jas

Dry the veneer THOROUGHLY before you glue it down - wetted out, it has "grown" by quite a bit, say, 5% across the grain, and if you anchor it to a substrate with glue, it will tear itself apart, or warp the substrate, or something equally undesireable when it dries and shrinks.

Veneer softener lets the veneer remain soft, flat, and flexible for a couple of days after it has fully dried and returned to it's dry width.
