I thought it would be nice to have a list of everyone's web site in one thread for easy viewing. I apologize if this has been done before and I missed it.

Mine is not up as I type this, but will be up soon - So I'll start the list with and and will let you know when mine is active.

Please add yours to the list

In a sense that would be redundant information as must of us, near all of us that build for sell and or have a web site have our web site listed in our profiles, and even if not shown on postings it is available by viewing anyone’s profile. Besides this post will eventually get archived but profiles are always constant and available

Michael - Just stop that!

Ok - maybe you all need a longer story. As I'm building my new site I thought it would be nice to have as many web sites to look at as possible. I was hoping to get a sense of what I personally like and don't like from the folks here on OLF. I thought a list of URLs in a thread would be a lot easier than me trying to look up everyone's web addy - especially since I don't know most folks here on OLF. Seems like a time-saver instead of a time-waster to me.

If you don't want to add your URL to the list - fine, it's not a big deal.

I currently have up a blog, but one day it will be a full fledged website. I only have a couple guitars on it currently. I prefer shop time over computer time.

Here's domains that will take you there.

No matter how beautiful your interface, it would be more beautiful if there were less of it. — Edward Tufte

Clutter and overload are not an attribute of information they are failures of design. — Edward Tufte

Both from his book, The Visual Display of Quantitative Information

A persuasive site for the internet of today will be driven by images and videos that help you communicate and help the viewer feel like they have a piece of your guitars already and want more. Think in terms of staging the guitars, not presenting text.

Design around a one page layout with subpages only when necessary and only for things that viewers have already started reading or viewing on the home page.

Essentially, develop it around the philosophy that the site is an interaction, not a brochure.

I think http://www.newspring.cc, http://daytum.com/, and http://virb.com are great models. The last two are way more information driven, but you can see what I mean about keeping it to one page without doing too much (they push it). The first site is a great model for what I think a persuasive site for a luthier would be like with added "how to get one," and "how to get in touch with me" info towards the bottom, presented similarly to the footer on the virb site.

Terry, I took a look at the guitar you did for your brother. I like everything I saw about this guitar. Way to go. I bet that is a happy brother.

Paul I want you to know from the bottom of my heart that my only point was that a quicker way would be to go to the members list and view as many and whoever’s profile you wished. I have no issue with you asking us to post our web site I was just letting you know a way to get the info in a much shorter time frame. I was not sure you knew this info was available at the members list.

Hey - It looks like I totally interpreted MP's post in the wrong way.

Sometimes boards are bad in that you can't hear a person's voice so you interpret things based on how your day was going - and mine wasn't going good at that moment.

I have re-read MP's post and realize that he was just stating facts based on my incomplete first post. After I clarified that my desires were of a personal nature things were much clearer and Michael understood completely what I wanted.

Sorry if I was a schmuck.

Well it was a rare "Aha" moment. I got the idea for another great website in a moment of inspiration, and I didn't act on it. When I finally did, someone else took it. The site didn't reflect it's name. THAT mad me mad. So I acted on a few that I thought might in the future direct traffic. I'm half embarrassed about posting all those, but glad I followed the leading to buy the domains. (BTW, I DO have more...)

Thanks for the kind words, Mike. I'll have you know that the rectangular blocks on the outside/inside rings of your rosettes inspired me a few years ago to do similarly. On mine, they came out to be rectangles with diamonds in the middle, but the idea is essentially yours.

Terry,
I think its more effective to work on meta tags and website contents with key words than having multiple websites targeting those key words.

Hi Peter,
Yes that's true. I don't know how to do that without help.

I am likely going to switch to Apple computer as soon as I can come up with the money for a notebook. Is ther any advantage with Mac over PC in the area of website development?

Thanks.

For now I have put up a temporary splash page.

I'll be creating email accounts in the next couple days and will add those to the page.

Paul---very effective. Good job.

Terry---not really. I love my MacBook Pro, and I loved my Powerbook of nearly six years before that, but Dreamweaver runs the same on both platforms. Although the interface is much nicer on the Mac :)

I ended the business relationship with my last client last week. Not because things were going south, but because I can't keep up with it all anymore and lost the urge to try. It was only fair to let them know I couldn't keep up. When developing a site, just remember that photocollages and internet-based brochures aren't what people are using the internet for anymore.
