Post subject:  Resetting a Lowden Neck?

I received a call this afternoon from a fellow who is inquiring about a neck reset. The instrument is a 2006 Lowden 0 50 cutaway.
He told me that he had heard the necks were tricky to work on.
I told him I'd investigate.
Looking at Lowden's site, the neck joint looks rather straightforward.
(A dovetail.)
However, anyone have experience with these?
IS there any subtle Irish finesse to be aware of?

TIA for any words of advice.

Steve

Steve, I believe that to release the glue on a Lowden, you need to use Guinness as the steaming agent laughing6-hehe

Sorry, I don't have any good advise for you. Seem odd though that a 2006 Lowden would need a neck reset?

I bet you could email George Lowden and he'd give you the goods.

Steve,

George is a great guy and I am sure that he would be more than happy to reply to your request for some pointers. It is in his best interest as well to have his guitars in top shape. My dealings with George have always been first rate!

hi Steve
What's been said above, I’ll second that from my experience.
Yeah it’s a dovetail with the under soundboard A frame inset on top, so I cant think how you’d get the joint free without renoving the top!.
Do you know if it is from the factory or his own workshop?
I believe he’s the kinda guy that will give you assistance, and would want to know the details.
good luck
Geordie

+1 on George being a great guy who will give you all the help you need.

When I was in his workshop about 18 months ago, there was a guitar with the fretboard cut at the 14th fret for neck removal........

Thanks for the replies, gents.
Rod, it seems odd to me, too. I haven't seen the guitar, but from talking to the owner it sounds like it might need that work.
He simply wants me to find out if it's possible to reset the neck.

Martin, no way I'm sawing off the fretboard extension on an 0 50!
(George can do that if he so chooses, but not I!)

Geordie (and by the way, when do I get to come visit your shop?!)
there's no need--as best I can tell from a phone call--to disassemble the top from the block. Fortunately! Just slip the neck off the body.

Shane, we just sent George an email. Hopefully he'll shed whatever light is needed on this subject.

Thanks again,

Steve
