Ok

I put together #2 on the weekend and strung it up.

I finished it with KTM-8 waterbased. Then polished with LMI liquid polishing compounds - cut, fine, then super fine.

I don't like the feel of the neck. I was wondering if I can varnish the neck now over the KTM-8 and the polish?

Thanks
Neil

I don't like a gloss neck , it feels sticky to me. I will scuff them, use 0000 steel wool , this cuts the surface just enough to make it feel a little faster. Try that before you refin the neck.

I'll second what John said...and even go a little farther. If the 0000 steel wool still feels slick to you....then drop down to 000. I have used both when rubbing out gloss finishes to satin and have ended up preferring the 000 over the 0000. This is a taste thing though.

Varnish is a real general term in the finishing world. So I'd ask what kind. I know your KTM-8 is probably cured good but I'd still be careful what I put over it. I think your better option here, since the neck already has the finish on it, is to rub it out.

Chris

I assume you meant KTM9. The heart of the problem is that the solids is acrylic. This makes for a very plastic feel and on a neck this is an issue. Don’t get me wrong I like KTM9 but not on necks. Even if satin finished it is plastic feeling to me. It is an easy enough finish to remove. I would recommend Tru-oil finish neck or Danish-oil. Both make for fast feel necks and are easy and fast finishes to apply and rubout
