You have a lot going on, Filippo!

I have a stalled acoustic in the mold and a strat awaiting buffing and electronics. Just a few more weeks. After this I'm going to stop letting things get in the way of my acoustics. My goal was simply to build one this year and I haven't been successful as of yet.

I also have an amp project nearing completion that I'm excited about (I spend a few minutes looking at my layout every day at lunch ;) ). With the help of some first hand information, I'm about to finish an amp similar to what Howard Dumble put together for Larry Carlton. There are a few areas it varies from his typical designs. I've been asked to keep some of the variations private, but it's based on his 100 watt bluesmasters. I can't wait.

Love that turtle soundport! And rockets are fun. I used to mess around with the Estes ones as a kid.

I have an L-00 size going, in the Z-poxy pore filling stage [xx(]. At least sapele is much easier to fill than rosewood. She is a plain-Jane guitar with nothing special as far as binding schemes and whatnot because it's my first one of this size and I am concentrating on everything else. Ivoroid binding, BWB rosette, BWB top purflings and BW back purflings. I used the radius dishes to sand the profiles on the sides and was very happy with the results.

Say, what do sea turtles eat? Little fish?
What if you inlaid a school of fish swimming for their lives ahead of the turtle? (I only suggest this because it isn't MY guitar. I'd balk at the extra work for sure....)

Lutz/mahogany with ebony binding, L-00 style, very plain, with a cutaway and soundport. Bending and external forms are done. This one will be all business, no bling, except the customer is doing a headstock inlay. Neck is about done, bracing the top tomorrow, bend the sides next week.

I did rockets when I lived in Texas. The problem is there are NO rocket guys in Taiwan and it would be impossible to find any field at all in Taiwan even if I were able to get the motors, so it's pretty much a no go for me. I was a member of the NAR however and I certified Level 1.

Right now I am building my first acoustic. I had built a few solid body electrics before but it's mostly painting and cutting here and there to make things fit but haven't actually carved a body or neck out of blanks, it's not really financially feasible for me because a body blank only costs a little less than a completed Strat body from mighty mite (they are fine bodies). I only shaped the arm and belly contour to match vintage profile before painting them however. Solid body guitar is cakewalk compared to acoustics anyways, it's just a plank of wood with routes for pickup/control/bridge with a neck attached to it.

I just finished bracing the back. I used hide glue, hope it holds up because I used a camping stove to heat up the glue (I heat up a pot of water until 70 C then put the glue in the pot of water) and I hope I didn't overheat it... I glued it on in stages because I only have a limited number of clamps...

This one just went to finish and I have two more hot on its heals. The are both Cocobolo, one with a cedar top the other an Engelman top. The are maybe three weeks out from hitting the spray booth.

gary, that guitar is quite gorgeous. LOVE the back and sides with the coco binding. im curious about the end graft. it appears as though one side is square and the other side angled. am i seeing that correctly? great work.

Heath, thanks for the nice compliments. The end graft is an isosceles triangle. The angle that I took the picture is just a little off to show this.

The guitar is all assembled and wired...I just need to mount the truss rod cover and make a cover for the control cavity.

My bench is full of clutter at the moment so I'm using my table saw to work off gaah

I've got a couple of guitars on the go, all in different stages.

Here's what I did last night. This is for an Australian Blackwood/Lutz Olson SJ.

Thicknessed the back and cut it out.

Started working on the rosette, cut the tiles and glued them together with a 0.010" black fibre paper line between each.

Looking at the above picture, I have to cut one of the tiles off at the gap (tile A1) and connect it to tile B1, otherwise the book match isn't centered at the bottom of the rosette gaah . Not that anyone but a guitar maker would notice once it's all together. This is what happens when working past midnight.

I'm going to inlay two paua rings into the blackwood (using the zip flex for the first time) then cut out the entire rosette. Than I'll set it in the top with a 0.010" black ring on the ID and OD.

I have a 1934 Slingerland "songster" on the bench for a neck reset. Its a beautiful older archtop with a solid spruce top and flamed maple sides and back.

Two classicals in progress, one in a very dark Brazilian rosewood with maple bindings, and one in Indian rosewood bindings TBD.
