Hey OLFers;

I am thinking about doing something odd and was wondering if anyone else has tried this.
After so many builds I end up with quite a bit of leftover stock and plates etc.. pieces and parts of woods that are too small for anything but a soprano uke. So I will start on my "calico" guitar here in the next few days. I have most of it laid out for shaping. Multi piece top, multi piece back and sides. multi ply neck. Redwood/cedar/spruce/Rosewood/maple/cherry/bubinga/walnut/sapele/
mahogany/ebony/goncalo alves and set up with mix matched tuners (gold- nickel-chrome and black), and bone-boxwood-R/W-ebony bridge pins. I will probably go with a dread and join all the pieces in geometric shapes and styles.
Does this sound nuts?? I will just keep it for my own humor as I never get to build anything for myself. I'll go with a double top too.

Sounds like a plan. To pull it off you really need to go all out with it and be really purposeful. To me, I'd only like it if it was really over the top.

That sounds really cool indeed. Are you going to do double sides and laminate the pieces to an inside side? Wonder if you could bend it that way.

Well, maybe this is not such a bad idea, I do like doing things different things anyway.
I'm thinking something much more "out there" in terms of patch-work-geo designs and many different tones and natural colors, no theme but clean and very purposeful. Something wild , I've been routing pieces together in no particular order or pattern today, it is matching and joining very nicely.
For the neck I plan to laminate lots of layers of woods in contrasting colors and triple/reverse scarf joints, intermitten finger-jointed fret board pieces of different woods, like mini hardwood flooring.
All done in natural clear stain or true-oiled.

That Keppler dovetail guitar is just absurd (in a good way, I mean)... Was that done with one of those dovetail jigs? :shock:

That DTM guitar is SO cool. Perhaps think about laminating many different pieces to form the sides and backs. It may be hell to bend, but fun in the end. Nothin' but pine on the top though. It needs to sound good.
