Are you talking about trimming the to-be-installed fret or fret slotting? SM tang nipper, small mill bastard, and fret nippers for the former, and shop-made templates and SM fret slotting blade for the later.

Here's the link to the template photo essay; an entire set of 12 (Martin (4 scales), Gibson (4 scales), Fender (1), PRS/'Weissenborn scales (1) plus short and long bass scales runs under $25 in materials; once made, it's a few minutes to slot a board.

My tool set: 1. LMI fret cutting guide. 2. Accurate ruler and scalpel for marking up the board. 3. Guaged fret saw for cutting the slots. I don't use a template. I measure the fret positions using the ruler and scalpel.....measuring twice and cutting once. Cheers Martin

I meant cutting the fret wire. I ordered the tools. Will a file from Lowes work? I also ordered the press arbor from LMI (for use on a drill press) Mike

Hesh. A crow bar? And a screw through the board? I'll bite. Whats the crow bar for? Would not a shot of Maker's Mark work better? Mike

The tool is called an end nipper or cutter and you can pick one up from most hardware, tool, box stores. Just grind the cutter part down so that they make a flush cut. You can also use them for pulling frets. Don't use them to cut the end off strings. Cal
