Despite his many warnings, I did a Hesh yesterday, almost.

As some of you may know, Hesh has suggested the working in boxer shorts with a bending iron clamped horizontally to your bench at crotch level is not a good idea.

So, I use rubber bands and a slotted workboard for tasks like closing the box and gluing bindings. There I am on Saturday morning, working with my rubber bands...in boxer shorts. Pulling one tight, it slips loose and shoots right at...you guessed it. Direct hit, bulls eye. My face turned red, I released some kind of guttural howl of agony, and realized I really should've listened to Hesh on the subject of building in boxer shorts.

We should add a standard warning...when working on guitars, don't forget to wear eye and ear protection, oh, and crotch protection too.

On a more serious note, I always wear my safety goggles when using rubber bands. I use them for bindings and also to glue the fretboard to the neck.

Now you might want to wear a Jockstrap also!

Yeah, I thought that might be the general reaction. No worries. :) I'll survive.

Alain's right, btw. Eye protection is a must. (I was wearing regular glasses.)

Frei,
I agree with the leather apron. Then he wouldn't need the boxer shorts.

Too funny. I remember a guy on the woodworking.com forum was trying to sneak between his table saw and the wall. His 4" dust collection pipe ran right at crotch level and happen to give him just enough room to squeeze by. Apparently though, the gap between him and the pipe was small enough to allow the tremendous amount of static electricity built up in the DC pipe to find the path of least resistance to his zipper. wow7-eyes

Seriously though, glad you and the boys came out of this relatively unscathed.
