Hey everyone. Can anyone recommend a good shop stool? I bought one from grizzly (H8364) and it arrived, and the base literally snapped in half when I sat down on it. Now I know I'm not a petite guy, but dang this thing should have been able to support 210lbs! Looking at the base the metal is cast really thing and flimsy. It's a shame too cause the seat was really comfortable (for the 20 seconds I sat in it) I promptly called grizzly and am getting a refund, but I need a nice adjustable shop stool. Preferably with a backrest, but it doesn't have to have one. |

I got the drafting chair from Staples. It adjusts easily with a single lever and pnuematic cylinder up to drafting board (tall workbench) height or down to a normal chair height. Has a foot ring rest with a big wide seat and adjustable back. Great casters too and quite stable. I outweigh you by 20 lbs and so far so good......... |

John, I have something like this, from Office Depot. I use it mostly with my feet on the floor. Saves my back. http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/333307/Global-Goal-Armless-Drafting-Stool-48/ Pat |

Sounds like it's a bit late, but Woodcraft has a pretty nice stool with a back rest, but a drafting stool is probably a better bet anyway (having sat in them for several years). If you have wheels on it, make sure you get one with five legs and not four...less likely to tip over on you. |

Don, indeed five legs....a number of years ago at the Museum where I worked, we had an exhibit of items that had been designed by the famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright. He had designed all the fixturing and architecture for the Larkin building in Buffalo NY, among them was a "T" configuration 3 legged rolling office chair. The employees had dubbed it the "Suicide" chair....... so much for great design...... |

My shop stool has been with me for about 15 years. You may want to save yourself some money and consider something like this. |
