David, I haven't heard of a Robo drum sander as distinct from a Robo sander. A Robo sander has a bearing and follower wheel that lets you follow a pattern. They're pretty cheap and are used in your drill press. A spindle sander is a dedicated machine with a sanding spindle sticking out of the middle of a table. Usually they oscillate up and down so that you're not always using the same part of the abrasive area, reducing wear on the abrasive and heat buildup. They don't have the follower that the Robo does. Robo is cheap, uses an existing machine, but puts forces on your drill press that it wasn't designed for. Spindle sander is a separate dedicated machine, does heavier work and is more accurate. Hope this helps. Pat |
