Way to Go Slabmaster. Ash is a great wood. Not used it myself. Anyone know the decibel level of a chainsaw? I don't. I just know the level sound begins to damage hearing, 83 decibels. Of course that is reached before the pain threshold, so without a meter it's hard to say. Slabmaster, consider a set of ear muffs or actually, you may have in a set of plugs? Dunno. Thanks for showing us that contraption. Did you make that? What is it? |

I do wear ear plugs as muffs are to heavy and hard to wear with a hat.The saw i was useing isn't very loud though.I do have some that are though and they can hurt your ears without protection. The fixture i was useing is made for chainsaws to mill lumber that i bought.I have milled over50,000 board ft. of lumber with it.It's very portable. It can be taken into the woods where you drop the tree to make boards. It's called an Alaskan saw mill.Northern Tool sells them. It's the best investment i've ever made. ![]() |

It's too bad this wood can't be shipped, because of the ash borer that killed these trees.I lost over 100 big ash trees to this bug from china. ![]() |

I live in Michigan and the Emerald Ash Bore wiped out nearly every Ash tree in the entire state. It got so very bad here that the authorities were cutting down all of the Ash trees to try to get rid of this bug. The last I heard over 2,000,000 Ash trees were destroyed by or because of the Ash bore..... Pretty sad. |

I agree withyou hesh,it's very sad indeed.I hope to save as much as this wood i can before it rots on the ground.Once it's gone that's it.It's the best tone wood in the country as far as i have seen. These trees may be dead now, but they will sing on in my guitars and flutes. And Yes Jody, most of it is quarter sawn which doesn't matter much in the flutes, but makes a great difference in volume on the guitars. |
