Well I have settled on the bandsaw, its gonna be the 19" Extreme (tilt & foot brake version) with ceramic guides. Now on to the table saw... I think this one meets my needs:

I really like the router table feature. Why is it I cannot add a riving knife as an option?

ive been lusting over that bandsaw for quite some time now, but i cant quite justify it at this point. congrats on your new tools.

i guess if you want the riving knife you have to jump to one of their newer models. pretty sweet if you can handle the increase in price. i personally own the 1023slx and i cant imagine having the shorter rails of the 1023slw. if that fits your needs then go for it, but the longer rails are used pretty extensively in my shop (think sheets of ply or mdf). i guess you can always add the seven foot rails later if you wanted to. good saw though. the router table option is pretty nice considering a good router table can cost in excess of five or six hundred dollars.

Make your own riving knife. I have the 5 HP Grizzly Table Saw with the Router table, had it since december and never looked back. No other table saw is worth it as cheaper ones are...well cheaper. More expensive ones are usually almost twice the price or more and there is nothing they have the Grizzly doesn't do. I love it and I've worked with all Deltas and Powermatics and was never impressed, for the price.

I have the band saw and can't complain.. It runs smooth and has power to spare. I have a similar table saw from Steel City. I am pretty sure that they all come from the same factory , but you will like it. I have seen this saw in operation. Now you need a good dust system.

Nice saw but a good router table is still needed in my opinion. Something with a larger table but you can build one or get a kitchen sink cabinet and put a 1 1/2"- 3/4" plywood + 3/4" malamine top on it.

I've been planning to get the 1023slw when I build the new shop. the 0561 looks like a nice saw, but price aside, I need the space a lot more than I need to rip panels (I do this a couple of times a year), and the router table would be nice. Best of both for me would be if they just added a riving knife to the 1023. Will that be required under the new UL rules?

I saw that UL requirement. It is for NEW saw designs. I did not know about the "existing" saw requirement. It seems odd the grizzly charges so much for that feature. I will study it tonight. I do not think I have a big enough requirement for the slwx, and I like the compact nature of the slw with router table... space is at a premium for me.

Very interesting (and reasonable too!). Anybody ever attached one of his knives to an existing saw? Does the knife rise and fall with the blade?
