I am soon to put finish on my first build. It's only going to be a rubbed oil of some sort. My question is do I attach the bridge first...or mark out the location of the bridge...tape off...then finish...then attach the bridge? Or do I just finish the body including the area where the bridge will be and just attach the bridge over it. My furniture experience tells me to tape the bridge area off....or attach the bridge first then finish as a whole piece, but I have seen gloss finishes on guitars on this forum where the body was finished entirely and then the bridge was attached. ????? |

I locate the bridge position, tape it and then we finish. When I first started, I just finished and know othere folks who do the finish and then determine where bridge goes and then have to scrape or route (done both) the finish off the bridge area. Why do the extra work to get to wood when don't have to go there in the first place. Never have or personally worked with anyone who sets the bridge first, but sure it is done by someone, somewhere. |

Don't use one of the "Danish" or "hand rubbed" oil finishes. |

I could see maybe using it on the neck but not the soundboard if it does saturate the wood. I have a bottle of it but never used it. |
