Post subject:  bearing against plexi
Has anyone ever run a flush trim or template bit, (the bearing) against their plexiglass tempalte to make another template? Or does it melt or damage it?

Mike, I use acrylic templates with pattern routing bits all the time. I've never had any heat problems. Plexiglas is more heat tolerant than acrylic. Go for it.

Plexi IS acrylic

That said, it takes more heat than you should be putting into it with a bearing to melt. If you were letting the shank of the too rub, instead, then you'd need to make sure not to doddle.

Yep, you're right Bob! I'm always mixing up Plexi and Lexan. Lexan is polycarbonate, right?

Yep.

There are a lot of brand names for both. I end up buying most of my acrylic sheet branded as Lucite. It can get really annoying when looking for a specific product (like 'blue acrylic' or something) and finding nothing under 'blue acrylic' but loads of hits under 'blue Lucite' or 'blue Plexiglass' etc etc.
