Post subject:  Titebond - rosette install question - should I seal ?

Hi -

I have seen this question in my searching asked several times - but no direct answer to -

If I use Titebond to seal my rosette channel, will the Titebond still stick to the shellac it well ? I am planning to use Zinser seal coat.

The reason I want to seal first is - that I may want to use CA glue for my outer rosette purfling -
I will install the inner purf first - then the middle radial wood - then the outer purf. If the space is tight, I want the option to use CA - if the space is loose, I have the option to add another veneer and or use Titebond which will swell to fill in the channel.

Thanks !

Titebond needs wood-to-wood contact, so no sealing.
If you're planning to use CA anyway, why not seal and do everyhting with CA?

I would only use CA if I have a tight fit. Without placing the first two parts of my 3 part rosette - I will not know till the end. I guess I can shellac the channel that is left over after I glue the first two parts with a fine brush -

thanks - you answered my question.

Ignore this if I misunderstood your post but if you use CA make sure to seal the rosette channels with shellac first otherwise the CA can bleed into the top end grain and cause spotting.
