Post subject:  Weissenborn X-Brace Dimensions???

Hello All,

For those that have build acoustic lap steel guitars what did you use for X-Brace dimensions? I've found 5/16" wide by 3/4" tall. Is this too tall? Would 5/8" tall work well? This is going to be a WRC topped Weissenborn style guitar.

Also what do you think for the finger braces? 1/4" wide by 5/8" tall?
And the transverse braces? 3/8" wide by ??? tall ?

Thanks in advance,
_Mike

I'm working on Weiss # 4 for me, and i think my latest x size is 5/16" x 5/8".
Finger braces 1/4" x1/4".
I'll check to see and get back to ya tomorrow.
I'm still experimenting though.
The original stew-mac plans call for 3/8" x3/8",
which seem way too square,
so I'm trying to keep the same wood mass, but taller and narrower.
P.S., I don't know what I'm doing.

on the last two, I used 5/16 X .650" at the junction of the X. Scalloped quite low & the top is not deforming yet.
That's with Sapele on one & a nice stiff piece of Lutz on the other. With Cedar, you might want to stay a bit taller.
Sure am interested in how the cedar top sounds. Hope you can post a sound clip or some comments, once you string her up!
