A friend wants me to build one of these for him.
Anybody know anything about these?
Tuned to D-A-D, so it be a 3 string.
He has a cheap one I can imitate some of the stuff.
Maybe build it with the Padma wishbone style of construction?

Looks like a McNally Strumstick from the Classical Era. Personally I'd just build it like any other instrument, or make the frame out of a single piece of wood and hollow it out like a PRS hollow body and attach a neck, top, and back to that.

Souvenir from Thailand?? How about an electric one?
Nice thing about exotic instruments....it doesn't matter how you build it because no one knows how it should sound. (unless you live in Bangkok I guess)
Just have a convincing spiel ready if people ask about it pizza

Now that's just too wierd.
The book John Ressler just finished is how to build one of those using wishbone construction, and I've been thinking on making an electric version.

See this thread for a link to the book http://luthiersforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10101&t=30928
