Does anyone have a suggestion for pre-profiling sides for a manzer style wedge? My next guitar is for a small woman and I thought that might make it friendlier for her. Obviously, I can go to town with the block plane or build some arm muscles on the radius dish, but it sure would be neat if I could bandsaw it out to get close first.

My best plan is to line a form with paper and set it in a dish. Then measure up from the dish an amount determined by the distance each point is from the center line, and assume a smooth change from one side to the other. For a one inch taper say, measure up, an inch and a half from the dish on the bass side at the widest part, but only up a a half an inch on the treble side, and mark other places on the sides based on how far from the CL they are. Then take out the paper, connect the dots and use it as a template to cut my sides before bending.

Sometimes when I imagine that, it seems like it makes perfect sense. Other times, it seems like I'm off base.

I do something similar but I prop the mold up on the dish to the side thickness needed at neck, tail block and both sides of the lower bout. I measure up from the dish to the top of the body mold every inch and plot the shape on the template for each side. For a cut away I just added the bump in the cut away area looking at a template I had for a normal shaped guitar. I make the template a little over size on the thickness to allow a little extra room for sanding the shape into the back. I have created OM and small jumbo templates this way and built 3 wedge guitars. I will be doing another based on the J200 outline for my next build.

That makes sense Fred. Sounds easier than what I was thinking of too. Any advice on the depth of the taper? In my example, I said one inch, but I just pulled that out of the air.
