I have been thinking about getting some magswitch magnets and have run across a deal I would like to pass along. Home Depot is having 50% discount on a few items online. The 30mm magswitch is among them. Rockler sells the 30mm magswitch for $36.99 each. After the discount HD I’m buying two of the Ridgid 30mm magswitchs for $46.60 total shipped to my house. 50% Off Power Tools & Accessories – Use Code PRES50 http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/sto ... hp1-_-wk04 Regards, Philip |

I have some magswitches but I've never found a real use for them....it's kind of like they are a great solution looking for a problem to solve (to me, anyway). I'd be very interested to hear what jigs any of you find them good for.......some repetitive task that needs the jig to be set/reset often maybe? Cheers, Dave F. |

Dave, I had seen the magswitchs before but had not considered using them. After viewing some videos I decided that they provide a lot of flexibility in use and can be used for much more than I had thought. These are basically designed to use on a metal surface and can be adjusted quickly. Since you can just switch the magnetism on and off I’m sure it could be used for wood surfaces also. A bit of metal on one side and the magswitch on the other then just turn it on. This would sure be easier than trying to use two rare earth magnets. No chance of denting or marring the wood while removing just the magnets. I used a neo magnet in a repair once and it worked well but was a bit difficult positioning against the brace. Do a search on magswitch videos and take a look. I believe Rockler and Woodcraft provides a video when you pull up the magswitchs. At the moment I’m at work and most videos get blocked so I can’t give you a good link. Philip |
