I’m not familiar with this product but Rockler now carries it. This looks like it would be good for us hobby builders. In fact the reviews look good from posters who have the Dust Deputy. Philip |

This is not a true "cyclonic" dust separator, that uses a cone-shaped housing to control the air motion and separate out dust and debris. It uses a circular "vortex", set up by the directions of the inlet and outlet ports. I think it could be good for separating out larger particles, but not very good with the smaller ones. If you use a good hepa filter on the outlet from your vac, that would help make sure you capture the small stuff. For the same price, I'd go with the Dust Deputy. There is a lot more science in the design of that unit. |

From what I can tell from the photos, it does not appear to be designed correctly. The low pressure exit is on the perimeter where the smaller dust particles tend to be suspended so it probably won't seperate anything but the big chunks. Also pretty likely it will scavenge material from the container if it gets more than ~half full. Pretty dissapointing at that price. My opinion is that you would be better served with the Oneida or if you want cheap and effective, build a Thein baffle for a 5 gallon bucket. -jd |
