If I can work it out, I would like to attend one of the Festivals/Symposiums/Gatherings this year. I've never been to one of these type events but I would like to meet some of the luthiers and see some nice, luthier-built guitars. Learning sessions would be a big plus (I understand they have these at ASIA, anywhere else?). I live in NW Ark. so something in mid-country or at least east coast would probably be cheaper than west coat (unsure about this). What would you recommend? ASIA might be nice.......maybe I could squeeze in a tour of the Martin plant if not too far away. |

The Martin factory is pretty close to Stroudsburg. If there aren't a bunch of folks heading that way, I'd be surprised. You can't find a better way to meet, talk with, learn from, and have a good time with other luthiers than to go to one of the Symposia. I've been to both -- they tend to be different in many ways but are both quite good. Look at the schedules and faculties, think about what might be of most use to you, and sign up! Heck, go to both!! |

Well, I for one, am going to the GAL Convention July 20-24, in Tacoma. It looks to be pretty amazing. The lineup sounds fantastic, and I can't wait to experience the Northwest. Spensive getting there, but seems well worth it from a professional development standpoint. |

I'll be at ASIA. About an 8-hour drive from Toronto, but I'm a new builder, desperate for more info. I'm really looking forward to meeting some of the folks on the forum, some serious builders, and a whole bunch of people who obsess about guitars. See you there Steve |

It would be nice if one of those festivals came to Arizona...seems like they are always somewhere else. |

I'm planning on going to the ASIA, lucky me it's only about 50 minutes from my house! Any others in the North Jersey area going? Scott |

I did this little review of the 2008 GAL conference for another forum. http://www.kitguitarsforum.com/archives ... 72_0_2_0_C You can be sure that I'll be back this year. If you read the GAL quarterly publications you'll realize that many articles were taken from presentations at the conference. btw - take your fav to show off in the Acoustic or Electric or Bass Listening presentations - that alone was worth the price of admission. (and while at Tacoma, plan time to tour to Mt Rainier or the North Cascades or Seattle or out to the Olympics (or all of the above) - Washington is a pretty amazing place) |

To date, I've been to one of each; one GAL in Tacoma, one ASIA in East Stroudsburg. Loved 'em both. Great opportunity to meet and share information with a fantastic group of people. I'll be going to ASIA this year, and not GAL, simply due to geographic issues. Can drive to ASIA, GAL's an expensive flight for me. The difference in cost is about a good set of Brazilian ![]() |
