African blackwood bends pretty easily. Isn't "mopane" what the masochist said to the sadist? |

I played one of Lance Ks' gitars, a big somethin or other a few years ago in Montreal & it was definitely the loudest with a very long sustain, that I ever heard, soooo... I bought a set. Not ready to use it yet. MM |

What is it you're trying to achieve? Are you simply focused on a very dark colored wood? Are you looking for a specific sound? African Blackwood and African Ebony aren't the same thing. Caveat: I haven't worked with either of them for back and sides, but my understanding of ebony is that the damping is relatively high compared to rosewoods, other. African Blackwood is extremely hard and stiff - my guess is the damping is very low.... loud, long sustain....not the same at all. |

Wenge is dark and a lot cheaper but the pores take some major filling. Prepare for some splinter pulling as well if you use it. |
