Please take a moment to welcome Lance from Forgotten Woods LLC to our fine family of OLF Sponsors!

Lance from Forgotten Woods contacted me about two weeks ago and sent me some info on his company.
He thought Forgotten woods would find nicly into our group of sponsors and I agreed!
Visit there site and see for your self!
Image

Here is a little history on the company that Lance shared with me.

Forgotten Woods LLC, and “Madera Olvidadas SAC”, were officially created early in 2006,
deep within one of the most remote areas of Peru in the southeastern Amazon jungle.
Our business plan was simple, to “re-discover” all the otherwise forgotten wood species in the forest,
as well as investigate new commercially interesting ones. Working hand and hand with local families and
indigenous communities, creating a realistic social, economical, and self-sustaining forest management plan
was vitally important to our success.
That plan also had to be one that would leave a very tiny footprint (or none at all) on the environment and
a positive impact on the rainforest. Now, our amazing “alternative” lutherie woods are generating excitement
and gaining favor among today’s Luthiers.
We offer the most unique and varied selection of new exotic backboards for acoustical guitars, sides, solid bodies,
tops, and most recently, necks, braces, bridges, and headplates.
Our woods have each been carefully selected and evaluated for their acoustical qualities, tonal response, density,
flexibility, weight, resonance, beauty and overall appeal.

Welcome!
I went to your site. Nice stuff there.
A lot of woods I've never heard of.
When you say "back sets", does that mean no sides?

Welcome Lance,

I couldn't resist the set in the introductory picture. I'm a sucker for woods I've never heard of. I'll just assume it makes a good flamenco guitar [:Y:]

Welcome, I like what you are doing though I do think that folks will feel a little iffy about buying sets that aren't matched back to sides.

Thanks for the sponsorship and welcome. I agree that I would be concerned about buying a back set separately from a side set. Beautiful looking wood, though! Beth

Thanks Alan,
If it says "back sets" that means a book matched pair of slices for the back. At the moment most sides sides are listed separately. And for a lot of species we don't have sides listed yet, but will soon.

Thanks Jim!
Higuerilla is a beautiful wood that looks in appearance very much like Madagascar Rosewood. You'll have to let us know if it made a good flamenco. Hopefully you will make a great guitar with it , not just a good one.

We will be offering matched sets in the near future as time allows us to get them photographed and added to the web store. In the meantime we hope you guys will enjoy the opportunity to make your own b/s match selections. The photos we take represent very accurately the wood. Each set is photographed under the same balanced lighting and we do not enhance the photos but rather try to keep them faithful to the actual look of the wood. We do offer a satisfaction guarantee so if you get sides that don't match like you want you can exchange them.

Figuring out how to offer sets of wood where each set is uniquely different is a challenge. There are many possible different combinations that appeal differently to different people.
I plan in the next few days to add an option that will allow you to select the back set and then allow us to select a matching side set. This will allow you to at least select the back as opposed to getting a sight unseen b/s set. As time goes on we want to offer exactly what you guys want to purchase in a way that makes the purchase a pleasant experience. So I appreciate everyone's comments.

It is our pleasure to help sponsor the forum and thank you for the opportunity to become part of your community.
I addressed your concern in my previous post. We will be offering matched sets in the future as time allows.....we are a small company and it is bewildering how long it takes to get sets photographed and online!
Hey, in the meantime if you see a back set that you like you can always ask us to recommend a side set for you. I hope you will find us very easy to work with.

Welcome and thanks much for your sponsorship. I look forward to trying some totally new choices and combinations. There may be a few builders here that can exercise restraint with wood choices but I am not one of them.

Welcome to the OLF Lance,

You will find many "wood-aholics" here of which I am the foremost. I am waiting to some more sets of Higuerilla. I've never heard of it before and from the sample picture I thought it must be Madagascar Rosewood (Dalbergia Baroni). Copaiba also looks very interesting with that light green sapwood.

Max

The headplates I ordered came today. I suppose that's the benefit of living two hours away. I'll take some pics tomorrow!

Lance,

Got the Hugerilla back and side set...wow, what beautiful wood. The package came just 2 days after I placed the order. I'm looking forward to hearing about the bending characteristics of this wood, and can't WAIT to see it on a guitar.

Thanks again for your promptness and professionalism. You are a welcome addition to my supplier list for those all-important wood "fixes" (my name is Beth and I'm a Woodaholic...it's been 4 days since my last order). laughing6-hehe

The Higuerilla set (the one at top of thread or very like it) arrived today. Kudos to Lance - he let's you know every step of the way as the order gets processed and shipped. Wood was well packed. A very happy transaction.

The Higuerilla is interesting. It reminds me of another obscure S./A. wood that I have one set of - Kelobra. I don't know if there is any connection. The Higuerilla set has very nice distinctive black lines, and is visually very pretty wood. It is not terribly glassy-like, I'd guess a fairly high damping wood. I am going to try it on a flamenco guitar, most likely, but I'm guessing not very soon.
