I'm finally wrapping up other projects which have been occupying me, and I am getting ready to start my next guitar. I'd like to try some new things so this will be a lot of firsts for me. Any advice is welcome. Some of the new things I'm trying are a wedge body, an arm bevel, a multi-scale baritone, hand cutting frets, and making my own bracing layout. Oh, and I want to get it done before my wedding in June - not critical, just a goal.

I started with the OLF MJ body, and laid things out as in the picture. I arbitrarily picked 27" and 29" as my long and short scale lengths. (measured and marked at the fretboard edge, not the string path) I worked backwards from the MJ bridge placement on the treble side. I slid the other scale around until it looked ok. The 6th fret is square to the center line. Then I tried to layout the x-brace so the bridge might reach it. I had to off center the x by about a half an inch. (The scraps I had were obviously too wide for braces, so those will be narrowed down a bit, and I'll need to add some finger braces, tone bars, and a UTB.)

A couple of specific questions I have are: What to do about the sound hole size? and Are those stupid scales to pick?

Thanks for any thoughts,
Mike

I see that picture is much worse than I thought. The diagonal black line at the bridge is the saddle location without compensation. The blue tape is meaningless. It is just holding together two pieces of paper.
