Holy cow, solid tortoiseshell fingerboard? http://blog.metmuseum.org/guitarheroes/guitar-ca-1800/ And people nowadays talk about excessive bling...

Pretty cool selection there.

Thanks for the link. I just spent about two hours going through it, including listening to the excellent sound bits.
Never knew Stradavari made guitars too.

Glad you enjoyed It. I also didn't know that Stradavari made guitars. I really enjoyed the Woody Mann Performances. Since I'm in NYC I'm going to the exhibition in the next week or two.

This exhibit blew my mind! Spent a good two hours looking around, kneeling down to look at neck angles, binding, etc. People must have thought I was crazy!

If you have the opportunity to go to this, please do, you will have the pleasure of seeing many well crafted instruments.

++1 The only caveat I'd offer is that this is clearly an exhibit that will captivate the archtop guitar fanatic. If you're partial to flattop guitars and not interested in archtop, you'll be less interested. Still a great exhibit though.
