I did this layout on another one too,
but it's not finished,
so I hope it works!
Whaddya think?
Yellow siris frets, dots, and bindings.
Pics don't do that wood justice!
Nice piece of EI rosewood from Allied.
Tung oil finish,
I like!

Weiss style lap steel.
Hence the flush frets.

I like the flush frets. Dots look a little big for my tastes, but I chalk that up to preference.

Looks good Alan. Are you doing rope binding on it? The guitar I mean :D

Nice work...fretless markers look clean...and might just aid that player with no ear. Known a few string base players that shouldn't be....:-) Also would prefer smaller dots. However, with my eyesight...maybe the larger dots would be in my benefit. Board is sweet too.

Thanks guys.
I wanted to go with 1/4" dots, but couldn't find a plug cutter that size.
Then I thought about making them on the drillpress, gaah ,
and decided to go with fewer, and larger,
because this build is simple and "homade" looking.
Glued the top on yesterday, and if i get a good enough seam on the top and back, no bindings, or end graft.
Just siris, and rosewood.

I like the large dots, particularly with the colors. There's only 4 dots, they need to stand out. If there were 12 dots, they'd be too big.
Smaller dots on this fretboard wouldn't contrast as much.

For future reference, 1/4" plug cutters are available from Lee Valley

I agree. I think that looks awsome. And you're right, Alan. Pictures don't really do that wood justice.

I'd prefer smaller dots....but the coolness factor is pretty high on this. :)
