Hi All, Here are two classicals I recently sent out the door. Beautiful! Wonderful work. I've always wondered how you do those arm rests. As a player, I hate my forearm after about 20 minutes. Steve |

Steve Steve, I didn't take any pictures but here's how I did it. 1. determine where you want the armrest to start and end, mark on the guitar 2. select the armrest wood 3. clamp the wood to the top, and trace the body shape onto the underside armrest wood 4. saw out armrest piece, following the bodyline you traced. 5. route the armrest overhang using a piloted cove bit 6. drill 3 x 1/16" holes in the armrest for locating pins (clipped off #16 finishing nails) 7. position the armrest on the guitar and clamp down so the locating pins, indent the top. This helps keep the armrest in place for shaping and gluing 8. shape the edge of the armest and blend it in with the binding. 9. I finished the top and scraped off the finish where the armrest goes 10. Glued the armrest and finished it along with the sides I suppose you could glue the armrest to the guitar in the white, but I figured it would make finishing the top more difficult. |

Very nice guitars Matt! Love that arm rest design!! I'm intrigued by the guitar case that we can see a little of in the last photo.....it looks custom.....is it? Can you tell me/us a bit more about it please? Cheers, Dave F. |

Steve- Sorry, I didn't get a good shot of the rosette before it went out the door, but both of them are commercially available Dave- Thanks. The case isn't custom, in fact, it is an "asian cheapo" but it is fairly decent quality, on par with TKL. I got it from Vinyard Guitars. They used to have a website but I can't find it anymore. Their number is/was 661-297-9022 |
